At the very bottom of the front page we can now see a random fact based on the statistics of visits to the different world wide editions of the website. It links through to a whole load of stats, including some flash to make it look pretty.

August 21, 2006The BBC — where I work as a Software Developer.
Exciting developments in the near future include: the iPlayer! which will unify all the audio and video content on the site through a common front-end design. The current trend of making programs available to download through your broadband connection will continue. Some people would like to see every show available for download. Unfortunately we would not be able to afford the bandwidth.
Solutions to the bandwidth problem being discussed are:
- peer-to-peer downloading of files
- showing advertising for anyone downloading video overseas
Launched this month
August 21, 2006Customisation. Users can enter their postcode on the front page to get their local headlines and weather.
AV Stacker. Audio/video news and TV programs are listed under their own sections on the front page:
- Video and audio news
- TV and radio programmes
- Most popular video and audio
RSS search. Search BBC News and Sport and get an RSS button that gives you a permanent feed of your own search terms.
Mobile alerts. You can get breaking headlines sent to your phone by text message. Only stories that are happening immediately. They aim for around 2-3 messages a month.
Audio and video content will now be highlighted in the banners and footers of pages.
